Qatari medical team in Gaza helping injured youth and children

The HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, which is funded by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), announced the launch of the second phase of prosthetic implantation intelligent upper limb electronics for 40 young people and children in Gaza, in addition to performing 50 cochlear implantation operations funded by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs.
QFFD Deputy Director General for Projects Sultan bin Ahmed al-Asiri affirmed continued support for a large number of humanitarian projects and interventions that fulfill Qatar’s vision of alleviating the suffering of people around the world, in realizing sustainable development for all, including its strong stand and support for the Palestinian people and their rights, adding that improving health assistance is a major priority for the QFFD towards the most vulnerable and marginalized people in order to to ensure that patients and people with special needs have access to essential services to enjoy a better life.

Al-Asiri said the hospital, which became operational for more than three years, offered paradigmatic services to thousands of patients and people with special needs from the Gaza Strip who had actually missed these services after years of suffering, saluting the functioning of the hospital. teams and their persistent efforts that have given more hope to patients and people with special needs to be active people in their communities.

In addition, the hospital launched the first phase of the Smart Electronic Upper Limb Prosthesis Implantation Project last March, through which 21 electronic upper limbs were implanted for young people and children in Gaza, where the delegation Qatari medical managed to perform 247 procedures. cochlear implant since 2017.
The Director General and Vice President of Hamad Hospital, Dr. Khaled Abdel Hadi, said the visit of the Qatari medical delegation brings good news for the people of Gaza and is mainly focused on three themes; the first concerns the cochlear implantation of the tenth cohort (implantation of hope), which includes 50 children suffering from hearing loss, the second theme concerns the launch of the second phase of implantation of 40 sophisticated electronic prostheses of the upper limbs to young people, women and children, stating that the second phase of the Smart Electronic Limb Prosthesis Implantation Workshop presents a holistic approach for complex amputation cases, such as double and short upper limb amputation , in addition to higher functional performance capabilities, where the recipient will be able to activate the wrist rotation technology helping him to practice his daily life without difficulty.
However, in an effort to ensure the optimal use of the limb, the patient will undergo a post-implantation training plan to become more familiar with the methods of using the high-tech limbs, he added, noting that the third theme will focus on training, upgrading and refining the cadre’s skills to achieve the enduring vision of the department by keeping pace with the education, development and scientific research process at the hospital, where the prosthetics department teams will be trained on modern software that would positively qualify them to afford the service based on global quality standards.
The general manager of the hospital, Noureddine Salah, underlined that the constant visits of the Qatari medical delegations to the Gaza Strip will go a long way towards reducing disabilities and saving the lives of many patients stranded due to the conditions in the area. and to help enable them to move on with their lives and overcome the challenges of disability and illness.
The HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, since becoming operational in 2019, has offered its services to more than 15,000 patients and people with disabilities through its three main departments, namely Prosthetics Department, Audiology and Balance Department. and Department of Medical Rehabilitation.
