Federal lawmaker Hon Lynda Ikpeazu (PDP – Onitsha North) provided free medical assistance to residents of the Anambra state constituency.

The medical services, provided in collaboration with Doctor on the Move Africa, will last for a week during which doctors and other health workers will provide health education, outpatient consultations, medical laboratory tests, scanners, distribution of drugs. , reading glasses and eye surgery. and other surgeries for various ailments.

Ikpeazu, reporting the exercise to the All Saints Cathedral Church, Onitsha said his motivation to embark on free medical awareness was due to the economic hardships they face.

“Health is number one and you have to be healthy to do anything else. We also know that medical bills, not just in Nigeria, are very high. And with the economic situation in the country, a lot of people cannot afford quality health care and on that basis I said that I should provide free medical services to my constituents.

“I know that exercise will help people cope with their health issues and that they don’t have to pay for it because we are paying the bills. Those who need to have surgery will go to Onitsha General Hospital for it free of charge.

“We are looking at at least 2,500 patients for treatment here. This is a very big opportunity that people should take advantage of. Lots of people have prolonged medical issues that are meant to be taken care of here. I told them that when they left here they had to tell those who were at home to come and check themselves and get treatment for free.

Medical outreach team leader Dr Joseph Kidu said the team was ready to attend to any patients and refer those whose condition could not be treated here due to the equipment. .

“We perform comprehensive medical awareness that includes health education, outpatient consultation, medical laboratory testing, scanning, drug distribution, reading glasses and eye surgery.

“We refer cases that we cannot treat here to Awka University Hospital or Asaba Federal Medical Hospital. So we can’t do all the cases because we don’t have all the equipment here, especially for major surgeries.

“We will be using Onitsha General Hospital for surgery and their ophthalmic theater and general theaters for surgeries and admission. We can manage up to 1,500 patients per day because we have seven consultation points. We have been doing this for 17 years in 22 states of Nigeria, ”he said.

Some of the patients Ms Agnes Odume, Mr Louis Oniche and Ms Oby Anigbo congratulated the Honorable Ikpeazu for the kind gesture, saying that she had provided empowerment and skills training for the people.
