Patients at a Lanarkshire doctor’s practice face a disruption in appointments as an Omicron wave hits the practice.

Staff shortages at Calderlea Surgery caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are wreaking havoc on clinical and administrative departments, with the Omicron variant spreading rapidly.

Absence rates have increased due to the rapid spread of Omicron which has led to a high number of cases over the Christmas and New Years period, with workers being required to self-isolate if confirmed that they have been infected.

Calderlea appealed for understanding as they tried to navigate their way through this stage of the pandemic and urged patients to use NHS 24 and their local pharmacy.

A spokesperson for Calderlea Surgery said, “We are currently experiencing an interruption in our clinical and administrative services due to a staff shortage related to the Omicron variant.

“We ask for the patience and understanding of our patients as we try to provide the best possible service during this time.
